What's Happening Now?

PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY GPMGA ANNUALLY:

MASTER GARDENING TRAINING

(One-Year Graduation Program)

​​​​The GPMGA Extension Master Gardener Training Program is the first step toward becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer. After the completion of 50 classroom hours (January - April), students then become an EMG intern. Graduation involves completing a minumum of 50 volunteer hours of service for the community. GARDENING 101 (Ten-Week Course)

This is Extension Master Gardener training without the volunteer component. Covers most of the topics that are part of the EMG training class with no commitment beyond the end of the class.

​

Classes are normally held one evening a week from 6pm-8pm and alternate between Goochland and Powhatan Public libraries.

Class size is limited usually to about 16 students to ensure appropriate opportunities for participation.

​

Topics Included: Soil; Herbaceous Plants & Design; Fruit and Pruning; Veggie & Herb Gardening; Insects; Plant Propagation; Water Issues; Habitat and Native Plants; House Plants and Container Gardening; and Integrated Pest Management.

Cost for the workshop (including materials) is $60.00.

It is open to both GPMGA members and the general public.
